A Candid Interview with a_jeronimo

jongeil: I'm trying to get into a journalism class at city college
jongeil: will you be available to "ghost write" some pieces?
a_jeronimo: haha
a_jeronimo: of course
jongeil: top of the line shit, I need an A of course
a_jeronimo: but what's the point in taking the course
a_jeronimo: prereq?
jongeil: Jemel can edit it, whatever it takes - cost is of no concern
jongeil: naw, just to get me writing again
a_jeronimo: dude, how is jiesmann?
jongeil: dunno
a_jeronimo: then don't take a jour class
a_jeronimo: take a creative writing or fiction writing class
jongeil: last I heard he was in sebanol picking garlic with the indigenous
a_jeronimo: a undergrad journ class will just be all about grammer and style
a_jeronimo: : haha
a_jeronimo: that's right
jongeil: I looked at creative writing, and all they had was short stories, play, and some other lame option
jongeil: yeah,I don't really want to learn that
jongeil: but the prof seems pretty cool
jongeil: he's an editor at wierd
jongeil: think thats a computer/technology mag
a_jeronimo: that could be cool
a_jeronimo: i took creative writing in college
a_jeronimo: and actually really enjoyed the short story and play classes
a_jeronimo: the poem classes were kinda lame
a_jeronimo: but it was cool to try a genre i'd never tried before like a play
jongeil: let me see what else they have for creative writing
a_jeronimo: alrice
jongeil: I graduated w/ a ba in english, but didn't really learn too much
jongeil it turned out to be a really easy major, even though I went through 3 universities in 4 1/3 years
a_jeronimo: yeah, i didn't learn a whole lot either
a_jeronimo: yeah, that's why i chose journalism
a_jeronimo: easy easy major
a_jeronimo: i wasnt really looking to make life tough for myself
jongeil: yeah, I figured I was going to be doing enough work when I got a job, why work my ass off when I wasn't getting paid
a_jeronimo: lol
a_jeronimo: i wanted to have more time for a social life
a_jeronimo: i don't know that i even thought enough ahead to think about what i'd be doing when i left
a_jeronimo: left
jongeil: yeah, I was the same
jongeil: I got out of school and I was clueless, I was a bike messenger for months
jongeil: then walked into the yahoo job, cause I knew someone
jongeil I guess I still don't know what I want to do
a_jeronimo: yeah, that's what i'm trying to figure out now
jongeil: let me know when you wrap that up, maybe it will help me
a_jeronimo: haha...sure thing
jongeil: what about feature writing?
a_jeronimo: nah...i think i've come to realize that i'm not really like most writers that you'd find a newspaper or a magazine
a_jeronimo: or wait
a_jeronimo: is that a class?
jongeil: yeah, I think you can use class
jongeil: there is a scene in Fear and Loathing:
jongeil: what class are you?
jongeil: huh?
jongeil: what do you write?
jongeil: oh I ride the big fuckers, a Vincent Black Shadow
a_jeronimo: i need to read that book
jongeil: http://www.ccsf.edu/AR/admissions.html pick a class
a_jeronimo: haha
a_jeronimo: ok, let me see what i can find
jongeil: preferably in the journalism/writing field
jongeil: something in the evenings, preferably one night a week
a_jeronimo: got it
a_jeronimo: not women's studies?
jongeil: I've already taken all the classes
jongeil: as well as religious studies
a_jeronimo: what about dental studies?
a_jeronimo: excuse me, dental assisting
jongeil: I've been blacklisted; I wrote a speech in high school on the conspiracies of the industry
jongeil: I
jongeil: 'm not cute enough to be a dental assistant
a_jeronimo: ENGL 35G-35H. Practice in writing, with special emphasis on autobiography.
a_jeronimo: you could tell your story to the world
a_jeronimo: An advanced composition course that integrates critical thinking skills with the reading and writing of expository and argumentative essays. Focus on critical thinking skills, careful reading and textual analysis and evaluation, and writing non-fiction prose. CSU/UC
jongeil: it sounds like the same bullshit I wrote in college
a_jeronimo: it is the same bullshit your wrote in college
jongeil: that is what they taught me, how to say nothing, and make it stilted and esoteric
jongeil: I need to get going on my autobiography
a_jeronimo: i like the Freature Writing course description
jongeil: I have soooo much to share
a_jeronimo: make that Feature
a_jeronimo: i know you do...all your adventures
jongeil: of journalism?
a_jeronimo: i'd go with the feature writing one...probably any course you pick is only going to be as good as you make it
jongeil: I wouldn't forget if I coudl remember, that is
jongeil: yeah, and I'm saddled with the extra burden of actually having to get something out of the class, as opposed to doing the bare minimum to get a B

...excerpt... jongeil: because people go to yahoo, and it is their entire social life, and they figure it will be a lot easier to just put up with the job scene, rather than try to find something else in the valley, or god forbin move
a_jeronimo: that i can understand...the job market is so bad
a_jeronimo: why rock the boat
a_jeronimo: but if you can, why not at least try to get out and find something better
jongeil: preaching to the choir
a_jeronimo: yeah, i'll shut up :D
jongeil: I've had the same conversation with a lot of my friends
jongeil: not that I'm a life coach or anything, but make a plan for how things should be in six months...
a_jeronimo: you'd be surprised how scary that is for some ppl. they'd rather just keep their head down and ploy ahead, no direction needed
jongeil: ... if they're not where they should be, then make some changes, even if that means leaving a job or moving
jongeil: yeah, I"m not surprised I guess
jongeil: there's this whole trap where people get out college, get a job, settle into an apartment, buy a new car, start dating someone, get a promotion, get married, and they never really stopped to think about what they wanted to do with their lives
jongeil: : but, different strokes to different folks, I shouldn 't be preaching about this anyways
a_jeronimo: well, everybody feels like they way they're doing it is the right way
a_jeronimo: but i agree with you
a_jeronimo: if you don't stop and examine your life now and then...you end up 45, kids and with no idea who you are or how you got there
jongeil: they feel that way cause its a lot easier to feel that way, and never question the viscious cycle that subjects you the american system, and the prefab american dream
jongeil: yeah, exactly, and if you don't stop at 5 to take an agonizing reappraisal of the situation - as hunter s thompson would call it - then you ignore any dreams and aspirations you might have had
a_jeronimo: some ppl call that "playing it safe". but i think it's more like "playing it stupid"
jongeil: it is playing it safe, why not follow the prescribed path after college, as opposed to doing something rash, like joining the peace corp, or moving to another country
jongeil: even extended international travel is frowned upon, like you need to go to europe or central america to do some soul-searching, like figuring out who you are what you want out of life is a great joke
a_jeronimo: i guess you're supposed to know that stuff
a_jeronimo: or if you're not prescribing to the prefab dream, you're an outsider
a_jeronimo: you have the dream laid out before...what do you need to search for?
jongeil: yeah, it comes in a nice tidy package
jongeil: get the bmw over the jetta, a little deficit spending never hurt anyone, right?
jongeil: this is a great conversation to have while working on 3 different things, borderline hypocrisy considering the "important" work I'm doing
a_jeronimo: right, so you can't afford to send your kids to college because you had to get the Escalade instead of the explorer
a_jeronimo: haha...that's what i'm really looking to change
a_jeronimo: i want to start having the work i'm doing really matter
jongeil: that's a tough requirement for your next job
jongeil: it almost sounds like you might be helping people
a_jeronimo: 3 yeah...that is in my "career musts" list
jongeil: those jobs don't usually pay well
jongeil: and if you marry someone in the gambling business, you'll still only be at a moral balance
a_jeronimo: lol
a_jeronimo: i don't think i've met anyone in the gambling business that i'd consider marrying
a_jeronimo: so i'm safe on that front
jongeil there are a lot of gems in the adult business, let me tell you
jongeil: they'd all hit it off real well with the 'rents
a_jeronimo: lol
a_jeronimo: you marry one then ;)
jongeil: I will thank you! and it will be for the money! I don't have the artifically high standards that probably crossover to love and marriage for you
a_jeronimo: haha
a_jeronimo: yes...with this new life inspection going on
a_jeronimo: i've decideed that money is out and love is IN IN IN!
jongeil: all you need is love
a_jeronimo: love is a many splendid things
jongeil: you're off to a good start for a wonderful greeting card poem
a_jeronimo: you started it, john
a_jeronimo: ringo
a_jeronimo: paul
a_jeronimo: and my personal favorite - george
jongeil: is that line in the song?
jongeil: I thought there was only one line
a_jeronimo: my line isn't in the beatles song
a_jeronimo: has logged off
