10/19/03 12:28 PM - A hazy lazy sail out to the Farallons. I brought over a pan full of my famous home-fried potatoes, also plenty of bacon, eggs, and a french press full of coffee to Andrew's boat on G dock around 8:30. We dined, got the boat ready, and took off around 9:45. After a stop to gas up (stopping at a gas station is much more fun on a sailboat, we started motoring towards the gate around 10:30. It was a beautiful day, but since beautiful days in San Francisco don't usually include a lot of wind, we motored through the Gate and towards the Farallons. I was the helmsman for a few hours, and had no problems spending my Sunday morning piloting a nice sailboat out into open ocean.
Around 12:00 we first spotted the island rising through the horizon. We were cruising along at 6-7 knots most of the ride out, but shortly after this picture we had enough wind to set sails and finally kill the engine.
